SORRY I AM LATE: my middle son snapped his wrist on Thursday and I spent most of two days in hospital with him. He is now resting and healing, and I am recovering from the oddly specific trauma of seeing your child operated on in A+E.
When not in A+E, I’ve been writing the final research chapter of my thesis this week (ironically, on medicine) and getting ready for the Social History Society conference which is coming up soon.
This week, we swing to the north-west and a city I almost never have the opportunity to research: Liverpool. 1880s Liverpool was all industry, shipping and logistics, and thousands upon thousands of people filling the houses and streets like ants to get it all done. This murder took place just off Leeds Road, and is a story of poverty, adultery, teenage rebellion and brutality.
